About VINdown
VINdown is a free depreciation-intelligence terminal for car people. It answers one question well: how does a vehicle hold its value over time? Every vehicle in the catalog gets a modeled value curve across its model years, a value-retention score, volatility and CAGR metrics, and a plain-English BUY / HOLD / SELL read of where it sits in its cycle.
Where the numbers come from
Curves are modeled estimates, not live dealer quotes. They are built from a curated catalog of segment baselines and public data sources — VIN decoding and safety data from NHTSA, fuel-economy and ownership-cost data from FuelEconomy.gov, and the used-vehicle CPI from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. When licensed live-listing feeds are connected, those provider series appear alongside the baseline. The full recipe is on the methodology page.
What VINdown doesn't do
- No appraisals — a curve is a market model, not an offer for your car.
- No scraping of third-party valuation sites — sources are official APIs, public datasets, and licensed feeds only.
- No accounts, no personal profiles — the site works without signing in.
Supported by ads
VINdown is free to use and paid for by on-page advertising. Ad slots are clearly separated from analytics content and never influence the numbers.
